Nook Color 1.1 adds multi-touch and speed

Barnes & Noble has quietly posted a 1.1 update for the Nook Color. The upgrade adds multi-touch web browsing to the Android reader and uses pinch gestures to zoom in. Home screen and shopping performance has also been given a significant speed boost.

Magazines and Nook Kids books have been improved, including new flags to make it clear when a Nook Kids book works with the spoken out Read to Me feature. Barnes & Noble has promised a raft of other minor fixes.

The update doesn't represent the Android 2.2 update that had been promised earlier.

Owners can update either through an immediate manual update or wait for an over-the-air delivery if connected to Wi-Fi. Every user should have the update over the course of the next few days.
