Wozniak talks white iPhone and gives Android edge

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak during his time as a guest on the Engadget Show supported suspicions that the white iPhone 4's numerous delays might be blamed on the camera. Having bought the official but never shipped original parts from Fei Lam, he found that any photo taken with the flash on looked as though it were taken through cellophane from the spilled-out light. Earlier rumors had the white-painted glass both leaking light and possibly reflecting too much of the light.

He added that he had problems with the proximity sensor as well.

While it's unclear how much inside knowledge he had, Wozniak understood that the white coloring issue had been fixed and that it would ship sometime soon. Numerous carriers have begun mentioning the white model again in unintentionally posted or hidden pages that have implied a launch in late February or early March.

He planned to get two Verizon iPhones, one in black (likely on launch) and one in white.

The early computing pioneer did have more positive things to say about Android, recalling a minor interview controversy from a Dutch interview. While he didn't give Google the absolute edge, he observed that there were certain advantages Android had over the iPhone. Voice Actions in Android 2.2 and beyond were favorites, he said. Swype's sometimes bundled keyboard, which works on prediction by swiping between keys, was also preferable to Apple's traditional layout. The format isn't likely to reach iOS since it requires modifying the stock layout and would break Apple's development rules.

In the earlier interview, Wozniak still gave the edge to the iPhone and suggested Android might end up being the true mobile parallel to Windows, where an OS some perceive as inferior wins a majority share simply through the sheer variety of manufacturers.
