Apple hiring for iOS devices with LTE as a major factor

Apple now recruiting with 4G in mind

Apple has quietly begun hiring cellular experts where LTE is now a major consideration. The posting for an iOS cellular protocol software engineer requires experience in working with at least one cellular protocol, including basic specs such as GSM but also LTE. The company has hired with LTE in mind before but has rarely mentioned it as a possibility in the requirements.

While Apple has never directly mentioned its plans for 4G, neither it nor its partners have masked ultimate intentions to use it quickly. Verizon noted that its LTE attracted Apple and was a long-term reason for agreeing to make deals for the iPad and iPhone. The wireless technology promises both much faster performance as well as a unified standard that AT&T, Verizon and most other carriers will share.

LTE isn't expected to arrive in any Apple hardware this year. It warned that an LTE iPhone would need design sacrifices using current chipsets and may have a similar argument for the iPad. The format is also only just getting a network established in the US and won't have wider coverage in the US until 2012 and less still outside of the country. [via 9to5Mac]
