Sony intros two new superzooms: HX100V and HX9V

Offerings range from 16X to 30X optical zoom
Sony has introduced two new superzoom point-and-shoot cameras, the CyberShot DSC-HX100V and DSC-HX9V. Both models integrate 16.2-megapixel Exmor R sensors capable of recording 1080p video, 3D content, and 42.9-megapixel "Sweep Panorama" stills when the user rotates the camera. The new cameras also allow users to capture three-megapixel still pictures while shooting movies.
The larger HX100V integrates a Carl Zeiss lens with 30x optical zoom, while the smaller HX9V is built with Sony's own 16X lens that can be set to 24mm for wide-angle shots. Both of the new cameras integrate optical image stabilization, with a "three-way" shake reduction system taken from the company's Handycam camcorders.
Although both of the new offerings do not integrate dual lenses for stereoscopic 3D recording, the cameras take two consecutive pictures in different focus positions to help determine depth. Left- and right-channel images are then created to mimic 3D effects in the standard still mode or Seep Panorama setting.
Both models integrate GPS sensors for geo-tagging photos, while an electronic compass adds an additional metadata element for shooting direction. The HX100V also brings a manual control ring that can be assigned to adjust focus or zoom.
The HX100V and HX9V are expected to ship in February for $450 and $350, respectively.
