Startup cites damaged shipment of displays
Only days after Notion Ink faced criticism for the build quality of its Android-based Adam tablets, the company has sent out e-mail notifications notifying recent customers of shipping delays. The startup claims the holdup is due to a damaged shipment of touchscreens, which happened to occur right before the Chinese New Year holiday, according to a company blog.
"Even though the damage was to a part of shipment, we cancelled all because in such a case you cannot predict the defective and working screens manually," the company said. "Our friends at Sintek requested their employees to miss their New Year week and instead manufacture the lost numbers."
A number of buyers have complained of "vapor patterns" on the tablet's Pixel Qi display, though the company reportedly dismissed the observations as typical for the display technology. Customers have also reported difficulties getting support staff to approve returns for potentially defective devices.
The company suggests the delayed products will ship on February 14.
