Two phones, two networks, two similar faces

Sprint is prepping two strikingly similar Android QWERTY bar phones, from different manufacturers and for different networks. The first, which carries Sprint branding, is from Samsung and is designed to run on Sprint’s CDMA network. Much in the style of Blackberry handsets, the new phone runs Android, but also incorporates a physical keyboard for users who are more comfortable with a tactile typing experience. Other than what appears to be an HVGA resolution screen, little else is known about the phone at this time.

The second phone is from Motorola and appears to be an entry-level variation of its own Droid Pro, which is sold on the Verizon CDMA network in the US. The new phone carries Sprint-owned Nextel branding and is designed for the IDEN network that it utilizes in Argentina and other Latin America markets. The new phone is called the Motorola i1Q. It is reported to run Android 2.1 and is powered by a slower processor than its more upmarket Droid Pro stable mate. It is possible that it could also be joined by CDMA variant compatible with Sprint’s US network.

With the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona starting on February 14, it is likely that both phones will make their official debut soon. [via Pocketnow.com] [via Unwiredview.com]
