Aava to bring 2nd gen Core handset to MWC

Aava Mobile is issuing invites to check out its 8.9mm thin Core smartphone at the Mobile World Congress show in mid-February. The device will be powered by the Intel Medfield CPU, just like the phone briefly shown last week. The second-generation Core platform will run on both Android and MeeGo and be aimed at developers rather than end users.

The device can be used to develop a core for smartphones or tablets and even larger devices such as ATMs, TVs, refrigerators and more.

At last year's MWC, Aava showed off an Intel Atom Z600-powered smartphone prototype. The production version was called the Virta 2 and was also aimed at developers. As such, it cost an extreme $2,400. It ran on MeeGo but was said to be capable of switching to Android by swapping out the microSD memory card.
