Brings three new top-shelf games for N8 users

Nokia has announced the release of the first update for “new Symbian devices”, erstwhile known as Symbian^3. The devices that can be upgraded to the new version of the OS are the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01. The advice on the Nokia Conversations blog indicates that the new update delivers under the hood improvements to enhance the stability of the OS, rather than brining obvious interface changes.

In addition to the bug fixes, meeting requests can now be accepted directly from email invitations and Maps integration in email allowing users to view the meeting location on a map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite. N8 users get some additional enhancements in the update including a new version of Quick Office. As an additional bonus, current N8 users can access three free games from the Ovi Store including Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire. Newly shipping N8’s with Symbian 1.1 will have the games come preinstalled.

The update is available either through the Software Update on the device or by using Ovi Suite. The update is large, so users are advised to download the update via Wi-Fi if using the in-built update service, or use Ovi Suite. Where users have a carrier variant of the software, the update will become available shortly.

Nokia also promises more updates throughout 2011.
