Nokia Bubbles beta runs apps pre-lock
Nokia wrapped up its week by by putting up a beta interface concept that could make apps much faster than on any other platform. Nokia Bubbles puts key apps in its namesake bubbles on a Symbian phone's lock screen; users drag apps to activation points to launch them. Many apps have their own sub-controls, such as the media player, checking new messages or answering a missed call.
The bubble metaphor would save users from having to go past the lock screen but would keep the interface elements random to prevent a phone owner from accidentally launching an app while the phone is in a pocket.
Using the beta needs a Symbian^3 phone like the N8, C7 or E7. Nokia hasn't said if it plans to make Bubbles a core element of Symbian, but its regained control of Symbian is leading it to make more frequent, minor updates. The Finnish phone giant is asking for feedback and implies that it would be rolled into an official upgrade.
