Palm Pre 2 leak shows Verizon date

Verizon's plans to at last launch the Palm Pre 2 were supported on Friday with a high-profile slip from one of the network's internal websites. HP's webOS phone should reach online and retail on February 17. The version of the slider shown at Engadget would support the earlier Palm hotspot feature and would qualify for prepaid data.

The design would still fit the Pre 2's formula with an upgraded 1GHz OMAP processor, a five-megapixel camera and noticeably improved build quality. Like the Pre Plus it replaces, the Pre 2 would have a 3.1-inch 320x480 screen, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage.

Its launch might be low profile at Verizon. HP is due to have multiple devices at its February 9 event and is likely to have more advanced models in store. Verizon has been quick to price its webOS phones low and may use the Pre 2 as a budget model.
