Plextor intros USB 3.0, eSATA external Blu-ray drive

PX-LB950UE Blu-ray writer, 12x speed


Plextor has introduced its PX-LB950UE Blu-ray disc burner. The drive is one of the first external Blu-ray burners to feature superspeed USB3.0 and eSATA connections to maximize data transfer rates for fast reading and writing performance. It is capable of writing to double-layer discs with a maximum capacity of 50GB, which is the equivalent of 10 DVDs, 72 CDs or 9 hours of HD video.

It can burn BD-R at up to 12 times speed and BD-R DL at up to 8 times speed. CyberLink Blu-ray and DVD playback software is supplied, along with recording applications and software that delivers 3D playback compatibility. LightScribe direct disc labeling is also incorporated to create professional quality black and white picture labels.

The Plexotor PX-LB950UE is available in Europe from February for the equivalent of $248. US availability is not known at time of writing, although it can be expected to available soon.
