Samsung Galaxy S and Tab get TV remote app

Samsung today said it had brought out a TV remote control app for its own Android devices. Versions of TV Remote optimized for Galaxy S phones and the Galaxy Tab replicate the features of the iOS app and will steer many of Samsung's 2010 and 2011 TVs over the local network. The app handles both the full range of buttons over multiple screens and has a QWERTY keyboard option for areas that need text.

The app needs Android 2.1 or newer as well as having both the Galaxy hardware and the TV on the same local network. Samsung officially supports the C650 or C6500 LCD-based sets or higher as well as the plasma-based C6500 and better. The 2011 models haven't been named but should include most mid- to high-end models with Samsung's Smart TV platform.

Either app is free on Android Market and isn't necessarily locked to a Samsung device.
