Nokia ships E7 to stores but E6 appears

Nokia today began shipping the E7 as its second true modern Symbian flagship. The long delayed QWERTY slider is designed with an eye to both home and work; it revolves around a four-inch, ClearBlack-equipped OLED (albeit at 640x360) and an eight-megapixel camera with 720p video but still has pro features such as VPN access, Adobe Reader, Exchange mail and Office Communicator Mobile for live work chat. It comes with 16GB of memory built-in and has both HDMI as well as the unique trick of a USB port that can take external storage.

E7s should be reaching stores in some areas this week for 495 euros ($671) before discounts. More countries should see the phone arrive "quickly."

Along with the official phone arrival, a leak late Sunday has shown the E6, a much simpler model. The design shown appears to be a spiritual successor to the E71 and E72 but would presumably run a newer Symbian build. It may be much more media-savvy with a confirmed eight-megapixel camera with twin LED flashes. Engadget speculated the display might be upgraded from the old 320x240 screen, but it's as yet unverified.

The E6 could go live as soon as Nokia's Mobile World Congress unveilings on February 13, but whether or not it ships soon is in doubt given the company's launch strategies.
