MetroPCS to get HTC handset with Voice Over LTE

Device follows LG Revolution's functionality

MetroPCS is reportedly set to introduce an HTC handset that supports Voice Over LTE functionality, according to GSM Association technology director Dan Warren. Additional details surrounding the mystery device have yet to surface, though the single known feature indicates the handset will support simultaneous use of the data network while a user is involved in a voice call.

The small carrier appears to be doing its best to compete with Verizon in the LTE arena, introducing the first LTE-equipped Android handset, the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, before the larger carrier will ship a similar offering.

It is unclear if the VoLTE-capable MetroPCS handset will arrive before Verizon's LG Revolution, which also supports the 4G voice standard. [via PC MAG]
