HP TouchPad may cost 699 and ship in June
The rumor of pricing on Friday proves correct. Tentative pricing from a BGR insider would put it at $699, or below the 3G Motorola Xoom but $200 above a Wi-Fi iPad. The summer ship date will also have been narrowed down to June, according to the tip.
The reported information was described as being less than final and had room to change. It's also uncertain whether this reflected the 16GB device or its 32GB counterpart. While electronics makers often have a price and ship date in mind, they often keep these private as they can be prone to change from unforseen circumstances such as a part supplier problem or component costs.
If it persists through launch, the TouchPad's cost could leave it at a disadvantage, particularly as other competitors are unlikely to remain silent during the four-month interval. Apple has more than once said it prices iPads aggressively and is so far predicted to be releasing the next iPad at similar prices to current models despite a faster processor, dual cameras and possibly more storage.

The rumor of tentative pricing is less than final and has room to change. It's uncertain electronics makers have a price and ship date in mind as they can be prone to change from unforeseen circumstances. TouchPad's cost could leave it at a disadvantage particularly if HP sings now, and delivers yesterday's product months from now when competitors (Apple) make the next leap.
You know, there's a saying: silence is golden.
