Launches salvo on Nokia shake-up
Former Nokia exec Ari Jaaski has launched a salvo at the new deal between Nokia and Microsoft that will see Windows Phone 7 supplant Symbian and MeeGo as Nokia’s new smartphone OS platform. Jaaski was a key player in MeeGo development is now heading up HP’s webOS and services development for its newly launched range of TouchPad, Veer and Pre 3 webOS devices. “I worry about my old friends a lot. I’m sad to see they no longer trust they can make a difference. They’ve given up and given away their passion. Sorry, that ain’t gonna work. You must believe in yourself and what you are up to, and you must believe you can change the world. That’s the only way I know,” posted Jaaski on his blog.
Jaaski even goes as far as to offer any disenfranchised Nokia employees the opportunity to join him at HP. Jaaski blogged,“So we’ve got many openings at HP in the webOS team. We need good C / C++ developers. We need good javascript guys. We need good HI people, testers, and architects. Now it’s the time to join. Where else are you going to have fun?”
According to Jaaski webOS is set to become a “winning mobile operating system.” He goes on to detail HP’s plans for developing a fertile ecosystem to support the revived platform.
“We will create an exciting ecosystem with developers and other partners. We are very committed, we have products in the pipeline, and we do not hesitate. We control our own destiny, and that is what matters in life. Right?”
The formal announcement that Nokia will partner with Microsoft has not been taken well by Nokia employees, 1,000 of whom reportedly walked out of Nokia’s Tampere office in protest at the decision.
Jaaski could be set to receive numerous job applications in response to his offer.
