Samsung Galaxy Tab 10in has Android 3, Snapdragon
Samsung's planned 10-inch Galaxy Tab 2 was seen as a lock for next week in claims from multiple sources today. The Android 3.0 slate should be unveiled at Samsung's February 13 special event and should be much upgraded, with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon and an eight-megapixel camera. Pocket-lint heard it would simultaneously be thinner than the current Galaxy Tab but smaller than an iPad despite the slightly larger screen.
The schedule for the actual release hasn't been mentioned, but the choice of Qualcomm chip might push the ship date out. If it uses the same chip as in the HP TouchPad, it might not be ready for months after the release. Another 1.2GHz variant is also enroute and could be ready sooner. Samsung normally ships hardware within a few weeks of its unveiling, but not necessarily to all areas.
Regardless of timing, the tablet may be vital for Samsung and is likely to replace the original Galaxy Tab entirely. The current model's 1024x600 screen and single-core chip may invalidate it for Android 3.0 and could leave it trapped on Android 2.x.
