Time Warner Cable breaks out $20 DVR service
Time Warner Cable has made its Whole House DVR service available to East Coast customers. The service could only be ordered bundled together with the high-end SignatureHome bundle. The multi-room and dual-tuner DVR service lets users record up to 75 hours of HD content onto a primary receiver.
For an extra charge, the recorded content can be played back on any set-top (even a non-DVR) in a user's house. Either of three primary HD receivers (Cisco Explorer 8642HDC, Motorola DCX3400M or the Samsung SMT-H3272) will give their non-DVR counterparts playback capability using the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) standard. Up to 16 Whole House DVR device can be connected on one network, TWC said. The service is now a competitive alternative to DirecTV, Verison and AT&T services.
The new service will cost $20 per month.
The cable company's east region covers 5.9 million residential and business customers in Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. [via Multichannel]
