Boxee Box update gives awaited Netflix streaming

Boxee on Monday announced that the Boxee Box by D-Link has now received support for accessing streaming content from Netflix. The absence of this feature was one of our gripes when we reviewed it, and was also requested by Boxee users. The support comes by way of a new software update, version 1.0.4.17443, and will let both US and Canadian Boxee Box owners to watch Netflix content.

Netflix subscriptions cost $8 per month. Accessing it from the Boxee Box differs slightly from the Mac and PC interface thanks to a new user interface. There are more discovery options, Netflix recommendations and movies available in HD.

Other changes in the update include support for Dolby Digital TrueHD bit streaming and high resolution SRT subtitles. There is also driver support for external IR remotes, including Windows Vista class remotes.

Several bug fixes related to navigation cut-outs, lost audio or video and subtitle errors were addressed as well.
