Refeshed line of HTC Android smartphones launched

Among the slew of new devices launched by HTC today as part of their World Mobile Congress presentation were revamped versions of the HTC Incredible, Wildfire and Desire, which have now been given the "S" treatment. The new HTC Desire S and Incredible S are HTC's flagship Android devices, while the HTC Wildfire S is its entry-level variant. Both the new Desire S and Incredible S are now powered by a second-generation 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 system-on-a-chip (SoC) paired with an Adreno 205 GPU.

Additionally, the HTC Desire S offers dual front and back cameras, 720p video recording and a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touch display. It is encased in an all-aluminum unibody, in an evolution of the original Desire design. HTC has upgraded the RAM to 768MB and has included a 1450mAh battery to keep things powering along. It will ship with Android 2.4.

Somewhat surprisingly, the new Incredible S only ships with Android 2.2. However, HTC promises a quick upgrade to Android 2.4 in the immediate future although was unable to elaborate with a specific timeframe. While the Desire S is equipped with a five-megapixel rear camera, the Incredible S is equipped with an eight-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and autofocus. Video calls are also possible thanks to its 1.3-megapixel front facing camera. It is also equipped with a larger 4-inch WVGA Super LCD display and stereo surround sound.

The entry-level Wildfire S is one of HTC's smallest smartphones and centers on a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen upgraded from QVGA previously. It has a decent five-megapixel camera with auto-focus and also comes pre-installed with Android 2.4.

They are all due this Spring.
