Scanner provides portability, quick scans

MacNN is continuing to review Fujitsu document scanners with the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100. The hardware is specifically geared toward mobile professionals, who may need both portability and sharp images. It can scan up to 600dpi, create PDFs and JPGs, and export to Word, Excel or iPhoto.

Real-world testing showed multi-page scans averaging 11 seconds a page. Exports can extend that time significantly though, for instance up to 40 seconds for a five-page document going to Office. Also, while the scanner can be cleaned in the field and is said to have good OCR software, it can still potentially generate mistakes in output. Read the full review for greater detail.

The scanner requires Mac OS X 10.4, and costs $200.
