Verizon V Cast app allows for music purchases

Verizon on Monday released a new V Cast music app for Android smartphones. The new unified app lets users buy full songs, ringtones and ringback tones in the same place for the first time. The app also adds a wish list, letting users indicate what kind of music they want to purchase later, along with a "recommendations" button that allows them to send music suggestions to friends.

The downloaded songs come in unprotected MP3 and can be transferred from a phone to a computer or other device using either V Cast Media Manager or any other app that recognizes MP3s. The tracks carry typical variable pricing and range from 69 cents to $1.29 depending on the age and popularity of the track.

V Cast is free but requires users have Android 2.1 as well as a smartphone data plan. Downloads through the store abide by net neutrality and count towards reaching the data cap on limited plans.
