Users report Omnia 7 briced by WP update

The Samsung Omnia 7 is being bricked when users load the new Windows Phone 7 firmware update on it, a tipster told WinRumors on Tuesday. The issue occurs at step six of ten, where the handset is frozen on the "Connect your phone to your PC" screen. Users then see a restoration error, which informs them there is nothing they can do short of visiting their carrier for help.

Microsoft has been made aware of the issue and said it's working on a resolution. The company's support forums are rife with reports of similar problems.

The connect to PC screen is now the permanent fixture on the Omnia 7 with the attempted update, though some other users just had trouble backing up, while their handsets continue to operate properly.

Some believe these inconsistencies have to do with the different version of Samsung firmware on the handsets. JI9 and JJ4 have the big problems, while the JK1 is fine. Others still think it has to do with 64-bit versions of the Zune desktop client for Windows.
