Sony to show NASA shuttle launch live in PS Home

Sony on Wednesday broke some ground for PlayStation Home by planning its first live streaming event. The LOOT Sunset Yacht environment will show NASA TV's live feed of the Space Shuttle Discovery's final launch, which is slated for February 24 at 4:50PM Eastern. The PS3's virtual world has supported video in the past, but never from a real-time event.

The yacht will also have another first in the option of changing the time of day independently of the PS3's clock.

The Yacht area is currently a "premium" environment found in the LOOT section of Home's mall area. Sony hasn't said when it might offer live streams in free public areas. Those who can't or are unwilling to watch from Home will also have the option of watching from NASA TV through a regular web browser.
