Sprint freezes Epic 4G updates to Android 2.2

Sprint on Thursday warned users that it was freezing its Epic 4G upgrade to Android 2.2. It has stopped automatically pushing the update and removed the download after receiving a large number of complaints both for data access and problems getting to media stored on an SD card. The only current fix is a hard reset that wipes out all the phone's existing data, Sprint said.

The company didn't give a timetable for when it would have a fix.

Its timing is a significant setback for the phone, which for most users has been on Android 2.1 since late August. Android 2.2 modernizes it with support for apps on the SD card, greater voice commands with Bluetooth dialing, and support for many more modern apps and widgets.
