Chrome model of USB mic also available
Samson, a long-time player in the microphone industry, is debuting a limited gold-plated edition of their new USB studio condenser microphone, dubbed the Meteor Mic, exclusively at Best Buy -- which is taking pre-orders starting today for the release on April 15th. The Meteor Mic, in either the gold or regular chrome-plated editions, features a remarkably flat frequency response and a zero-latency headphone jack built into it.
Although the Meteor Mic itself is quite compact, it features a large, 25mm condenser element that makes it suitable for both acoustic instrument recording or vocals. It requires no drivers and works well with almost any digital audio program, from Garageband to Skype to voice recognition software.
The gold-plated special edition features jewelry-grade, 22-karat plating that is four microns thick and will be packaged in a numbered mahogany wood case. A gold-flashed, braided USB cable is included. The special edition will sell for $150, while the regular chrome edition (which also includes a USB cable) sells for $100. Both versions feature a volume control knob, a mute switch and a stand adapter. The Meteor Mic is capable of full 16-bit, 44.1/48kHz recording.
The mic also features fold out legs to form its own stand, and can be positioned in a variety of ways. It can even work directly with the iPad (using the Camera Connection Kit), and uses a cardioid pickup pattern and captures a very flat 20Hz-20kHz frequency range.
