DirecTV app for iPad now out for free on iTunes

The promised DirecTV iPad app is now available (free, App Store) for download. The app will let users control their DirecTV services but not watch streamed content. They can browse sports games, view scores, use the iPad as a remote control and schedule DVR recordings or change channels.

More information about shows can be viewed, including cast names and parental ratings. The home screen can be customized to show off favorite channels and modules that show updated content such as sports rosters. The app works with HD DVRs on the home network.

Some users who've already downloaded and used the app are complaining that the app doesn't allow watching live or recorded TV on the iPad as with a Slingbox, nor does it let users delete shows in a playlist.
