Sound, keyboard and scanning aids

MacNN has reviewed three recent products, beginning with Audioengine 2 desktop speakers. The units are said to have "excellent" sound quality, especially in terms of bass, meanwhile offering other advantages such as dual inputs. Some minor drawbacks include power and volume controls being placed on the back, and the use of bare wire cables instead of ones with banana clips.

The Magic Lapdesk is an accessory which holds a Mac keyboard and trackpad at the same time, useful for controlling a computer attached to a TV. The gear is said to be solidly constructed, despite being cheap and lightweight; different models accommodate different keyboards. The only negative is said to be possibility of peripherals sliding side-to-side.

ABBYY's FineReader Express scans paper documents into editable text files. A simple interface is reportedly combined with an accurate recognition engine. Potential catches may include performance with TIFF files, and the need to use a scanner with TWAIN drivers.
