Tip: 'don't get your hopes up' for iPad 2, MobileMe a focus

Rumor has iPad 2 low key, MobileMe cloud big

Apple's March 2 event may end up focusing more on the MobileMe media locker than on the iPad sequel, a rumor maintained on Tuesday. A purported Apple employee urged fans not to "get your hopes up too high" and cast the immediate sequel as more of an evolution. The Cult of Mac contact nonetheless said it mirrored expectations and would faster, carry more RAM, sport dual cameras and "likely" have dual-mode 3G to handle both EVDO and HSPA.

The third-generation iPad was the one that would be the truly exciting model, the tipster said, supporting beliefs that it would be a rapid turnaround model due late this year.

Attention would instead be focused on the cloud service. Supporting earlier claims, MobileMe would at least store media bought from the iTunes Store. The source couldn't say whether or not the service would also allow music the customer owned from other sources, such as third-party downloads or CD rips, but talk had at least surfaced of the possibility. Recent tips have alluded to Apple successfully convincing labels that the service was a backup and remote access for the user rather than a second sale.

Apple as usual has been quiet on the subject of most of its plans for March 2, but it recently acknowledged that the North Carolina datacenter was meant for iTunes and MobileMe and would be ready in the spring. The iPad update if as predicted would still make it competitive with rivals and could undercut Android 3.0 tablets like the Xoom.

Well, if a rumor says somethings gonna happen, that either means someones illegally leaking information (and needs to be imprisoned+fired), or there making s*** up. So either way, I ignore it.

    AAPL down even more

All rumors are meant to affect the stock market and this will have it's desired effect on lowering AAPL so some people can make their killing. AAPL was trying to hold its own early in the day and has been on a steady decline since mid-morning. Add rumors like this and it's easy to see all the manipulation going on. As Justin said, it's about time these leaker get fired and imprisoned for leaking information or simply making it up.

Even if it's minor update ...

... there'll be something else to make it worth having an event. The NC Death Star plan, big Mobile Me update (e.g., major price drop), some new form of integration/communication with other devices, something really cool in iOS 4.3. Otherwise it would be handled like the MacBook update: store's down ... and now it's up.

    Mobile Me

.. could well be the most important thing for Apple this year, we know iPad 2 will probably be more evolutionary than revolutionary.

iPad 3 Later this year? Doubt it.

Not unless the iPad 2 doesn't sell well. Or, if it will take that long to get the dual mode or a 4G modem in it.
Apple doesn't go around changing its' product development cycles just for the h*** of it. Consumer Product Development is on a year long cycle for a reason.
"They" rumored the same thing about the iPod Touch 3 when it didn't have a camera... "They'll put the camera in and put it on sale in a few months..."
If Apple does introduce an iPad 3 this year, it would probably be a larger iPod Touch in September and therefore WIFI only.

whatever is announced tomorrow, should have been released last year. Omitting a camera, limiting the RAM and making the original iPad so heavy - was a deliberate exercise in "building-in obsolescence". And I'm one of the millions of mugs who fell for it.

Your premium cloud service sucks! It doesn't do anything more compared to the free service out there and you have gall to ask people to pay for it!!

MobileMe can be a good focus

if something very nice is coming. Make sure that you demo it live and make sure that you get the WiFi and/or 3G network properly inside.
