Compatibility issues limit function

An amateur programmer claims to have adapted Android 3.0 to run on the original original Android phones, the T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic. The programmer claims that the "full" Honeycomb UI, the ability to run apps, and several advanced features are working. Several of the most common smartphone functions do not work, such as 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi, and SMS and MMS messaging.

The backward compatibility issues are unsurprising, given that Honeycomb is optimized to run on the newest Android tablets. The last official update for the G1 and Magic was Android 2.1 (Eclair).

The user has promised to make an alpha of the modified OS available when more of the features have been debugged. [via XDA Developers Forum]
