Logitech hints Android Market on Google TV soon

Logitech Digital Home Group VP Ashish Arora gave clues at OTTCon on Tuesday that the promised Android Market for Google TV was coming soon. He vowed that it would not only come this year but that it should be available in the "very short term." The executive added that apps from the Market wouldn't be isolated widget apps and could link its own content to TV.

Cisco's advanced architecture director S.V. Vasudevan, also at the convention, floated an example of how this could work through what's already happened. Directors have been providing a live Twitter stream during TV broadcasts, he said. It was implied that a Google TV app could let anyone do this without interfering with TV.

Google had originally told early adopters that Google TV would get Android Market in early 2011 and is quickly about to exit its promised target. It hasn't explained just why it didn't have the store ready in time, but optimizations for a TV-sized screen and support for TV-specific features are considered the most probable causes.
