Pentax Optio S1 arrives with HDR shooting
Pentax on Wednesday night brought out a compact camera with its own company firsts. The Optio S1 is billed as the first Pentax compact camera to have a high dynamic range mode. Its technique overlays multiple shots and both reduces the likelihood of blown-out highlights while improving the detail in shadows.
The S1 sits strictly in the mid-range with a high-resolution 14-megapixel sensor but a straightforward 5X, 28-140mm equivalent lens. It uses sensor-shift stabilization and can record 720p video. Frequent portrait and self-portrait takers can get an optional IR remote.
Shipments will come quickly for the S1, which is due in stores late this month. It should arrive in red-laced black, chrome silver and an aqua green, all of which will cost $200.
