RIM set to launch open beta for BlackBerry Protect?

Research In Motion is reportedly set to launch an open beta for its BlackBerry Protect security service, which was first revealed under the name Shield, unnamed sources have told N4BB. The features are expected to enable users to remotely wipe data or change passwords, customize a "lost and found" screen, activate an alarm, or track the handset location.
The company is said to be testing the service with a limited number of individuals in a private beta program, but official details have yet to be announced. The latest information suggests the open beta may be launched at the end of the week (March 5) in North America and other select markets, while a European launch is said to be scheduled for March 19 and the Asia Pacific region will be added on April 2.
A launch date for the final version remains unclear, though the range of services are expected to be offered to all BlackBerry users for free.
