iPad 2 accessories: Booq, Scosche offer cases

updated 03:00 am EST, Thu March 3, 2011

Both companies shipping new lines in late March

Leading iPad accessory makers Booq and Scosche have announced cases and other accessories for the new iPad 2, and both companies say they will hit the market within the month. Folio and carrying case maker Booq showcases their Booqpad, which combines a folio case for the iPad 2 with "the original tablet -- an actual paper notepad. Scosche, on the other hand, offers not just cases but a full line of accessories, including a waterproof Bluetooth mini-keyboard and several iPad 2-compatible charging options.

Scosche has introduced a FoldIO p2 version custom-fitted for the iPad 2, including the necessary rear-camera hole. The case is available in black and white leather or carbon fiber textured versions, and features three landscape viewing positions as well as vertical and typing positions, and a suede interior. The FoldIO p2 sells for $50.

Also available is a translucent, flexible rubber case called the GlosSEE p2, priced at $40. It is available in Clear, Smoke, Deep Purple, Rocker Pink and Blue options. In the same color choices is a low profile, polycarbonate case called the SnapShield p2 that sells for $30.

The company is also offering a $60 rollable silicon Bluetooth keyboard called the FreeKey which features a range of up to 30 feet and a retractable USB cable for charging. Scosche continues to offer car and home dual-chargers, now offering both 2.1 amp and 1 amp USB outlets for charging both the iPad 2 and other accessory (such as an iPhone). The car version, called the 2.1A PowerPlug, sells for $18; the home ReVive II charger (available in black or white) sells for $30.

Finally, Scosche offers A/V connection kits and FaceTime-compatible cell-phone style earphones with inline microphones. Both the TapLine II earphones and the SneakPeek II media kits sell for $60.

Booq's single offering combines the ultimate in modern -- a stylish folio-style case made specifically for the iPad 2 -- with the ultimate in retro: a paper notepad on the other leaf. The Booqpad for iPad 2 sells for $50 with a limited-edition luxury model available for $100, and is eco-friendly and weatherproof. The Booqpad is designed symmetrically so that it is usable by both right- and left-handed users, and features room for a pen, business cards and a 50-sheet A5-sized notepad, the same size as the iPad screen (the company sells refills in packs of three).

Aimed at creative professionals, engineers, or just habitual doodlers, the company argues that sometimes paper is still the best way to quickly sketch out a big idea. The notepad is made from post-consumer materials and printed with soy ink, and refills can be ordered with multiple color options for creative workers. The regular version is available in black/gray, white/berry, sand/plum, and gray/green. The luxury edition comes in coffee/cream and features a genuine Nappa leather exterior.

Both companies expect to be shipping the products in late March, and they are available for pre-order on their respective websites.

Nice materials, but your ""case"" for iPad sucks sorry. It's just a sock. Try harder.
