PlayStation Move.me opens Move to developers, research

updated 04:15 pm EST, Thu March 3, 2011

PlayStation Move.Me launched to find new uses

Sony's PlayStation 3 accessory, the Move, will get a devoted app that will help developers extend the usefulness of the motion controller. The company made this announcement at the Game Developer's Conference on Thursday, and the Move.Me app will give hobbyists and academics access to the Move's technology. With this access, new applications can be developed using a PC, the Move controller, the PlayStation Eye and the PS3.

This could mean applications other than gaming, such as in health care and research, among others. Move.Me is a server app running on the PS3 itself that lets developers experiment with motion controls. It will send the state of the PlayStation Move and navigation controllers to the PC, which is the same data licensed developers have access to. Move.Me doesn't require a license, however, and is officially sanctioned by Sony.
