Verizon to carry iPad 2 on March 11

Verizon confirms iPad 2 on day one

Verizon removed doubt about its plans on Friday and put up a home page ad as well as a teaser page confirming the iPad 2 would be available in its stores on March 11. The EVDO-equipped 3G version will reach the carrier's stores the same time as the Wi-Fi and HSPA 3G versions. It's likely that the store will join in having a special 5PM release.

The carrier has already said it plans to use the same pricing as for its current iPad + MiFi bundles, which offer contract-free data at $20 for 1GB per month, $35 for 3GB, $50 for 5GB and $80 for 10GB.

The iPad 2 launch indirectly represents a step back for the flexibility on Verizon. MiFi users could still share their tablet's 3G connection with four other devices beyond the iPad. With the integrated 3G edition, the connection is limited to the one device without Personal Hotspot support extending to iOS 4.3 on the slate. As an EVDO device, it likely also remains locked to Verizon and can't be used for 3G on trips to other countries like the HSPA 3G version can.

Ah cool, so the toy iPad 2 (EVDUMB) and the real iPad 2 (HSPA+) will reach at the same time. Cool. The kiddies can get their precious little Verisuck at the same time the adults get their real model that will work anywhere on Earth. A shame they price the toy at the same price as the real model, it should be in the Hasbro price range.
