Leaked Sony Ericsson WP7 phone is cancelled

The recently leaked images of a Windows Phone 7 smartphone from Sony Ericsson will not lead to a production device, Mobile Review proprietor Eldar Murtazin said. The well-known device leaker communicated over Twitter that it's been confirmed the device is a prototype that was cancelled last year and will not be coming out. The handset had a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a large touchscreen.

Sony Ericsson has promised a Windows Phone 7 device in 2011, so it’s likely there is one still due, though it will not be this one, if Murtazin is accurate.

Many companies that had virtually abandoned Windows Mobile late last decade have been coming back to try Windows Phone 7 now that it has given modern features such as multi-touch, a desktop-level web browser and full media playback. Sony Ericsson has been more committed to Android than many of these and is making its centerpiece phone of the year, the Xperia Play, an Android 2.3 flagship.
