Sprint to stick with Clearwire despite rumors
Sprint's CEO Dan Hesse during a speech at conference in Florida on Wednesday said the company will continue to do business with Clearwire in the future. Sprint owns 54 percent of Clearwire, who is a wholesaler of WiMax technology on which Sprint depends. Hesse added that he'd like to see Sprint and Clearwire do more network sharing, BusinessWeek reported.
The comments partly put to doubt earlier reports that Sprint may switch to LTE 4G technology and discontinue its working relationship with Clearwire and WiMAX. Clearwire could itself move to LTE but now wouldn't be abandoned by Sprint regardless of how it moves.
Rumors from just yesterday allege that Sprint is in talks with Deutsche Telekom AG to buy its T-Mobile USA unit, with the German company getting a large stake in the resulting company. It's also said the companies are having trouble agreeing on a value for T-Mobile USA, the fourth-largest US carrier.
