Upgrade adds exhibition utility, voice dial

HP has begun distributing webOS 2.1 updates for Palm Pre 2 handsets, though the current release appears to be limited to unlocked devices. The over-the-air download enables users to take advantage of the new Exhibition utility for access to the clock app, photo slide shows, and calendar view. Other improvements including voice dial, additional backup options, and support for Bluetooth keyboards.

Recent reports suggest the OS update has arrived for the Pre Plus sold through O2 Germany, despite HP's initial claim that its aging handsets would not receive the latest version.

HP has yet to publicly commit to a time schedule for updating devices on other carriers. Aside from the unlocked version, the update is also said to be available for the Pre 2 sold by Canadian carrier Rogers.
