Low-cost netbook for education

Lenovo has teamed with Intel to deliver the next generation Classmate+ netbook for education. Based on an Intel Learning Series reference design, the netbook is designed to be school-friendly in both its pricing and ruggedized design. A feature of the platform for schools is that it comes pre-loaded with educational software and a variety of teaching resources.

The new design has already made a strong start with Lenovo announcing that it has already signed a 158,000-netbook deal to supply the Ibero-American states with the Classmate+. This comes on top of the 3 million Classmate netbooks already sold from previous generations, which have proved popular with schools because of their drop and spill resistant design.

The new model comes equipped with typical netbook specs including an Atom processor, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Windows 7 comes standard, while storage can be optioned up to 250GB spinning hard drives or even SSD. It is also fitted with a 10-inch LED backlit screen, 1.3-megapixel camera, multiple USB ports and 4-in-1 card reader.
