HTC sales manager backs March 17 Thunderbolt date
HTC sales manager Imran Shahid in an update (since deleted) inadvertently confirmed a March 17 launch date for the HTC Thunderbolt. He proudly touted that the "first 4GLTE smartphone on the Verizon Wireless network" would launch next Thursday. He didn't give out the price or whether or not data plans might change.
Most had expected the Thunderbolt to show as early as mid-February, but it was pushed back multiple times. Insider tips have pinned the cause on pooorly optimized battery life that required multiple fixes from HTC before it would be ready. The phone may have lasted as little as a few hours on a charge when using 4G but may now be running more smoothly.
The Thunderbolt is mostly an adaptation of the Desire HD for Verizon's LTE network and has the same 4.3-inch screen, 1GHz Snapdragon, eight megapixel back camera and front video chat camera. It will, however, have a unique support for simultaneous calls and 3G data that, while rough, will give it an edge over most other CDMA phones.
