iPad 2 launch demand 'amazing,' Apple claims

updated 12:35 pm EDT, Mon March 14, 2011

Company quiet on details

Demand during the first weekend of iPad 2 sales was "amazing," according to Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller. "We are working hard to get iPad 2 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible," she adds. The company is holding its tongue on exact figures, although it may simply be compiling the numbers, and could publish them as soon as today.

The iPad 2 has been on sale since 1AM Pacific time Friday morning, when online orders first opened up. Retail sales began at 5PM relative to each US timezone. International availability will only come on March 25th, and then only to a select group of countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany and Japan.

Sales results are expected to match Apple's positive tone. The company's online store is now listing shipping times of three to four weeks, having initially started at around three to five days. In terms of retail, at least 50 Apple Stores, 20 Best Buys and Walmarts, and several AT&T and Verizon outlets reported being completely out of stock by Saturday. Estimates have called for upwards of 500,000 iPads being sold.

    is IS amazing

just imagine when iPad 3 comes out.

AAPL would be soaring today if it weren't for the horrible events in Japan. The fact that it's holding its ground in a sagging market today is a positive indicator of investor confidence in the iPad 2 launch.
