Nokia India says WP7 handsets coming in 2012
The first Windows Phone 7 device from Nokia will arrive in about 12 months under the newly inked deal, the Finnish company's managing director in India, D Shivakumar, said. [Speaking to DNAIndia, Shivakumar felt Microsoft's software was strong in social networking, search and other programs. Before these statements, some suspected it would take two years for Nokia smartphones to move over to the Windows Mobile platform.
"We took the decision after looking at that operating system [Windows Phone 7]. It’s a good operating system," Shivakumar said.
Nokia will abandon its popular Symbian OS in order to support Windows Phone 7. Before the first WP7 handset comes from Nokia, however, between 40 to 50 new phones will arrive in 2011, with about 20 of them running on Symbian.
