Game survey hints Sony NGP starts at 250
Sony may price the NGP considerably lower than feared by some. An Ubisoft survey gauging early adoption said it expected the basic, Wi-Fi version of the NGP to cost $250 while the 3G version would cost $350. Gamers were asked how likely they would buy the handheld based on those prices, Kotaku learned.
The survey was conducted by a game developer contracting out to the research company Toluna, making it possible that the prices are still speculation. Sony, however, hasn't floated any specific pricing and has only hinted that it would cost less than suspected, but most likely as much or more than the $250 Nintendo 3DS. Ubisoft often works closely with console designers and might have advance knowledge.
If real, the prices would be extremely competitive even by the late 2011 release target. The NGP should be one of the fastest mobile gaming devices by the time it ships, with a quad-core processor, quad-core graphics. Its five-inch OLED touchscreen and backside touchpad will also likely hike the price. At $250, it would be much more capable than the 3DS, reaching near-PS3 graphics and missing out only on the 3D display.
