Radeon HD 7000M chips show up in leaked roadmap

AMD will create its upcoming Radeon HD 7000M graphics processors for notebooks on 28nm architecture, according to a leaked roadmap. Posted by Turkish site DonanimHaber, the roadmap also indicates the chip will be split into four families, codenamed Wimbledon, Heathrow, Chelsea and Thames. The first two will fall under the gamer/enthusiast category, using up more than 35W of energy and meant for big, desktop replacement notebooks.

Wimbledon will be released in the spring of 2012, while Heathrow is coming late in 2011. The former will be the most powerful, with a 28nm, 256-bit design and available with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM, while the latter will be split into 128- and 192-bit products with 1.5GB or 3GB of GDDR5 RAM.

Chelsea chips will be performance-oriented and use between 20 and 30W while using a 128-bit memory interface and 1GB or 2GB of GDDR3 RAM. They join the lineup next fall. Thames will be in the mainstream/performance group, using between 15W and 25W. It also arrives in the fall. It will support 1GB of GDDR3 or 2GB of GDDR5 RAM.

These chips will also be made for desktop PCs, though other specs are unknown at this time.
