Vehicles connect to map data, traffic information

Audi has announced that it has chosen T-Mobile to provide wireless broadband for the manufacturer's range of vehicles equipped with Audi Connect features. T-Mobile SIM cards will enable the vehicles to access data for services such as Google Earth maps and navigation, Google Search content, Sirius Traffic information, news, weather and fuel prices.

Models to feature Audi Connect systems include the 2012-model-year A7, the A8 lineup, the A6 and the Q7, while future models, such as the Q5 hybrid, are also expected to be added to the list. The vehicles will be sold with T-Mobile SIM cards, enabling customers to sign up for service at the time of vehicle purchase or any time thereafter.

It remains unclear if AT&T's plans to acquire T-Mobile will affect the latter company's partnership with Audi, though the merger faces a long legal process before finalization.
