Device finally gets seemingly solid time-frame

Chumy has announced that its latest device, the Chumby 8, has finally received a solid launch time-frame and pricing. The device is already available to pre-order directly from the company for $199, with shipments expected to begin on April 5. Customers can choose from black or red color schemes, along with custom skins from Skinit.

The company has revamped the series with a variety of new features, centering around an eight-inch touchscreen with 800x600 resolution. Users can take advantage of an integrated browser, photo frame functionality and music playback, along with a wide range of other capabilities from over 1.500 free apps.

Third-party developers have created utilities that connect to services such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Groupon. The company promises a Flash Lite update to arrive soon, enabling additional content coded in AS3.

Aside from the software features, the Chumby 8 also provides two USB ports, slots for CF and SD cards, a microphone, headphone or speaker output, and an 800MHz processor. [via CrunchGear]
