Iomega ships ScreenPlay DX HD media players

Iomega on Tuesday introduced its new ScreenPlay DX HD connected media player range that replaces the old ScreenPlay Pro HD line. The devices can access Netflix, Pandora and other entertainment sites, as well as playback standard and HD movies locally or from a home network thanks to their DLNA certification. They connect to the web using a standard Wi-Fi connection, and a small, wireless QWERTY keyboard is bundled.

The devices have support for H.264, WMV, RMVB and MKV formats, among others, as they are DivX Plus HD certified. Popular subtitle files are also supported and a proprietary web browser is integrated.

Three models will be offered, with the ScreenPlay TV Link DX carrying no onboard storage while the ScreenPlay DX HD Media Player will get either 1TB and 2TB hard drives built in. Connections common to all include two front-facing USB ports, one rear USB, an HDMI connection, an Ethernet port, composite video and optical audio.

The products are now shipping, with the ScreenPlay TV Link DX HD media players priced at $150. The 1TB model is $230, and the 2TB model is $300.
