Sony Ericsson release imminent as new ads out

Sony Ericsson has hired writer, actress and comedian Kristen Schaal for its latest spate of Xperia Play ads. The rather comical clips outline the Jekyll and Mr. Hyde-like nature of the handset, with business-oriented features along with the gaming aspects. Schaal says the device ships with Android 2.3 and features integrated Google Mobile Services such as 3D maps, along with "controls that give you power, intense gaming, violence, adrenaline, a promised struggle to survive that on some level is almost erotic."

Despite their quirkiness, these new ads are less hardcore than a previously leaked one.

The handset is expected to ship anytime now, likely at Verizon. It will feature PSP-style controls and a 1GHz Snapdragon with an Adreno 205 graphics core. The 854x480 resolution, 4-inch touchscreen can run at 60 frames per second. There is also a five-megapixel camera that can take 720p videos.

In Canada, it will be exclusive to Rogers when it arrives this spring, though prices are unknown.
