First East coast Microsoft store due in Atlanta, near Apple

Microsoft says Atlanta store coming

Microsoft started off the week with plans for its first East coast retail store. Its ninth shop will open at Atlanta's Lenox Square Mall, sometime in the spring and most likely in April. In keeping with Microsoft's practices, Apple also has a store in the same location and is likely the primary incentive for the new shop.

With the exception of its Mall of America store in Minneapolis, almost all of Microsoft's stores so far have been on or near the West coast of the US, focusing primarily on Apple's core user base in California. Houston, New York City, and Orlando have been rumored getting stores this year, but none have been definitively identified so far.

It just opened its latest California store in Costa Mesa on Thursday.

The shops have regularly been low traffic but, to Microsoft, haven't been intended primarily as revenue generators. It has publicly described them as experiments to see what works and to pass along knowledge to other retailers. Most of its strategy has involved mimicking Apple stores, ranging from the basic layout through to an in-person help desk and fully functional demo units. [via WinRumors]

Why the heck does Microsoft have to do this?

There's so many places that they don't have Apple stores, so why put a store right next to an Apple Store. It's like a form of stalking. At least put the Microsoft store in another part of the city.

    maybe

they think they can con customers who accidentally wander in, into buying Microsuck products... after all the stores are heavily modeled on Apple Stores, just swap out the logos...

    Store Locations

If Apple put a store in the sewer, MS would locate upstream.

Well, where I live Most Tech Shops Are Located

on the same street. It is called clustering. This makes it easier for consumers to shop around.

    Samsung + MS = Apple

Samsoft or Microsung. Either way they are both getting their inspiration from Apple.

    MS Experimental Stores

Since they've all been low traffic, I wonder what more they're waiting to learn? Of course, the fact that they're opening yet another one of their stores says that they haven't learned anything at all.

But three cheers for Microsoft. At they rate they're building, they could still break into double-digit territory before the end of 2013.

    Sad

The Denver MSFT store is soooo sad. It's always like a ghost town in there while the Apple store is bustling w people. It's almost sad how empty the MSFT store is. Even the day Win7 phone came out.

Sometimes I just want to ask the MSFT employees working there if they were rejected from the Apple store.
